Reviews of my Books

When you read books for review, you read differently. There is always that thought in the back of your mind. I’m supposed to be judging this. I must remember that bit in chapter three that annoyed me.

Then, every now and again, an author comes along that is so good, you just forget. You get swept away, anyway. Gail Gernat did that for me.

Lera’s Sorrow is a 60-page novella setting up Illera’s Darkliete, a full-length novel. After finishing Lera’s sorrow I bought the sequel immediately. I was going to read both before submitting a review, but I couldn’t wait. She’s that good.

Gernat’s character’s dwell in a mystical fantasy world that feels so fresh you can almost smell the grass. Lera’s sorrow is poignant, sweet, erotic, and painful, and I couldn’t put it down. In essence it’s an origin story. There is no heavy action or combat but, it didn’t need it. It felt urgent and dynamic and it made me care. In fact I’m going to stop writing this review and read some more of book two. Buy these books – read them!

Lera's Sorrow
Illera's Darkliete

I didn't want this book to end, I had grown to love the characters so much! I don't want to give any spoilers so I will only say that this book touched my heart. I felt every up and down with them and I loved Illera's wonderful heart. She and the rest of the amazing characters had me in tears a few times. I am so anxious to read the rest of this series!!

Shipwreck

This story starts fast and never stops. A difficult protagonist, outspoken, smart and independent. Little does she know how important she is to every survivor. Fast paced with well-developed characters. I was shocked with the ending because I wanted more.

Royal Rebel

Lady Death will grab your heart and wring it out before giving it back to you. This futuristic look at humanity spread across the galaxy resonates with the same problems we face in the real world today. Ms. Gernat places real characters in the most fantastic situations with incredible tools and abilities but they ring true and genuine and we end up falling in love with them.

Extraordinary Lessons

The true horror of this story is its truth. It resonates through actions and reactions of the two young boys. Once again Ms. Gernat takes real people who could be our next door neighbours and places them in situations of pure fantasy and adventure. In this dark and twisted world we realize the depths that victims can be driven to, and still, the characters stay true to themselves.
